Urban Dictionary (都会的辞書?)

英語のWebページ見てて，あれ?この単語どういう意味だっけ?とか思って紙辞書使うのも電子辞書使って調べるのもめんどうだったのでいろいろオンライン辞書活用してたわけだけど，そんなことやってるうちに面白いの見つけた．

リンク先にはこう書いてある．
"Urban Dictionary is a slang dictionary with your definitions. Define your world"
初め，いろんなスラングを載せた辞書かなって思ったけど，"with your definitions."って部分が解せない．で，よく見るとこんなことも書いてある．
"If Wikipedia's just too credible for you, there's also Urban Dictionary."
いくつか用語の定義を覗いて見て上の2文が何を意味するのかやっと分かった．
たぶんこれ，一言でいうとWikiライクな辞書だ．

言葉の意味っていうのをユーザーが定義してやって，(これが with your definitons ってことね)それに対してクールかクールじゃないか，っていうのを投票で決める．そしてクールな定義はそのまま辞書として載る．投票制なのがWikiとは違う点だけど誰でもaddしたりeditしたりできる点は一緒だ．
こういう辞書も面白いもんだなぁって思った．

言葉っていうのは時代とともに使い方や意味などが移り変わっていく物であり，そしてそれは至極当然な分けで，きっと日々新しい言葉なんかも生まれてるんだ．そんな曖昧な自然言語で僕等はお互いに意志疎通をしている．素敵だなぁ．
